Hagley Park Evening Hunt

Spent a couple hours in Hagley Park this evening with a couple other ChCh detectorists (Andy and Chris).

Started off by pulling up about 3 cans worth of aluminum bits, then got a NZ 1941 penny. After that I noticed another detectorist over the channel from me, and went and said hello. Went back to the area i was searching after a short chat, and found another couple pennys (1940 aus and a 1891 brit) then managed to find a 1935 NZ sixpence and a solo $1 goldie.

Silver #3 this week

Tried another park / soccer field area today, over in the Avonside area. Only 3 finds in an hour, but im happy with one being a silver bracelet. The other 20 dug targets with goldie like numbers went in a rubbish bin. HH all :)

  

Water hunting looks like fun...

So i decided to have a hours swing in a stream next to the area i found alot of silvers previously.

2 Pennys, 2c, 30's florin and a couple old lures. Plan to head back when i have a bit more time along with a bigger scoop and togs ;) May even have to waterproof the pin pointer in a few zip-lock bags ;) I hated not having it with me today! lol!

Finally had a decent mornings hunt, that was half worth writing a post about!

Lots of goldies & 1c's, a time-out coin, a lure, a thimble, a cow and a big flash junk ring and a 1934 shilling :)

2011 Coin Count

I'm still hiding from the sun after 4 great days down in Kurow, so today i spent a couple hours counting the coins i detected from August 1st to the 31st December 2011.

• 44 NZ silver coins (5 florins, 13 shillings, 19 sixpences, 7 thrupences)
• 4 British silver coins (1 sixpence and 3 thrupences)
• 10 non silver predec (1 Half crown, 4 florins, 5 shillings)
• 25 badly corroded pennys & half pennys
• 22 NZ pennys
• 9 NZ half pennys
• 35 British pennys
• 7 British half pennys ( 2 ship )
• 28 Aussie coins ( including a few aussie pennys and half pennys )
• 10 other coins from around the globe
• 101 spendable NZ $2
• 155 spendable NZ $1
• 31 spendable NZ 0.50c
• 82 spendable NZ 0.20c
• 220 spendable NZ 0.10c
• 209 old NZ 0.01c pieces
• 120 old NZ 0.02c
• 37 old NZ 0.05c
• 43 old NZ 0.10c
• 49 old NZ 0.20c
• 18 old 0.50c

Makes a total of 1259 coins, if i have used the calculator correctly ;) lol!

The above pic shows some of the other stuff picked up along the way, including the 5 and a half silver rings, 3 other bits of silver and 1 gold ring found in 2011.

Only had the one 2012 hunt so far, which was up in Kurow, with my sister, niece and nephew,
and we only managed to dig up a few bottle caps ;) lol!

Shaking off the posting slackness

Shaking! Funny how that word is still on the mind aye ;) lol!

I've been out on about 10 hunts since the 13th of Nov.
Couple of these times i have met up with some other local detectorists in Hagley Park.
Most of the other hunts have been back to the other places im slowly covering.

12 pennys, 4 half pennys, about 30 1c and 2c pieces, and $40 in goldies makes up the most of the finds, with the more interesting coins being a 1889 british thrupence, 4 NZ silver shillings, and 1 NZ silver sixpence.

Went out to a couple spots today, with the intent to find $10. Arrived at the first area and spent about a half hour there and got nothing apart from a few 1c pieces and bottle caps. Ended up heading back to an area that i have got coins from in the past and within a hour or so had my $10, which took me over $400 since starting back in August.

Lmao - about 20 mins after i posted the above - we've just had another small aftershock ;)

Back into it . . . Again!

After another slack week or two, I challenged myself to get up at 5am and meet up with some other ChCh detector's this morning in the Christchurch city area.

I ended up staying till about 9am, and once again attracted some attention from a "concerned" resident from across the street. He actually came over and asked if i was from the council and when I said no, asked why i was digging holes in the park. His attitude at first was a little pompous in my opinion, and didn't even take my offer to show him how the process of finding a target / digging it / replanting the plug works. I know i wouldn't approach someone with an attitude like he had, from my own residence, without knowing how the person he was approaching would react, or retaliate to what felt like an unprovoked attack on someone minding his own business. Each to their own i suppose. My patience is wearing thin with people like this tho, the next one i get may just get more than a nice reply offering to show what i am doing.

I didn't find any old coins today, but the few interesting bits and pieces, $13, couple old NZ coins, meeting another detectorist and the interesting chat i had with the local were well worth the early wake up ;) HH!
